Sea Urchin (Diadema palmari). The Diadema urchin found in the Poor Knights Islands Marine Reserve in Northern New Zealand is a delicate bundle of long, thin spines. In the core, the waste sac is surrounded by a geometry of color and row upon row of needles.
Michael O’Neill is a freelance photographer and writer specializing in travel and natural history subjects, particularly tropical Atlantic and Indo-Pacific destinations, marine wildlife and environmental issues. An avid conservationist, he has traveled extensively and authored many articles focusing on marine life and travel destinations.
